With the weather getting colder and the days being shorter, it can be a struggle to find the motivation to go to the gym. That being said, it’s still no excuse not to keep your body moving! I guarantee that you will break a sweat and burn some major calories with the following moves that can be done right in your own living room. No excuses, just results!
Burpees
Burpees have a universal love-hate relationship for my clients, but there is almost no better way to get a full body workout in without any equipment! You start in a standing position and squat down, placing your hands on the ground. From there, jump your feet back so you are in a plank. From the plank position, do a push-up, then quickly move your feet back to your hands and jump up into your standing position.
Flutter Kicks
This move is great for hitting those abs and is commonly used in military exercises so you know you’re getting the most out of your workout with this one! Lie on your back, legs fully extended. You can place your hands either at your side or, for more lower back support, under your butt. pressing your lower back into the floor, lift your feet off the ground and alternate as you kick up and down, about 6 to 12 inches off the floor.
Shoulder Taps
This is another killer core workout, but it adds in an element of arms, legs, and lower back too! Starting in a full plank position, bring one hand up to quickly tap the opposite shoulder. Return that hand to the ground and repeat, alternating sides as you go.
Squat Jumps
We all know squats are a great way to build up leg strength and a firm lower body, but did you know that adding a jump at the end of the squat increases the calories burned and builds power/strength faster than regular squats? Here’s what you do: Standing with feet shoulder width apart (or a little wider depending on your stability), keep your head and chest up as you sit back to an imaginary chair. You want to sit so that your thighs are at least parallel to the ground and your knees are not pushed forward beyond your toes. From that position, push up through your feet, keeping your core muscles engaged, and jump.
Do a few rounds of these moves and you’ll be sweating in no time! It can be hard to want to exercise when it’s cold and wintery outside, but it is so important for both mental and physical health to keep our bodies moving. This workout takes away the excuses and gives everybody a chance to stay fit from home. Let me know if you try it and which moves are your favorite!
